Melvin D. Strobel, 88, formerly of Turtle Lake, ND died August 9, 2017 at CHI St. Alexius Health, Bismarck, ND. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Monday August 14, 2017 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Turtle Lake. Interment will be held in the Turtle Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Monday at the church.

Melvin was born May 12, 1929 south of Mercer, ND the son of Daniel and Mary (Werre) Strobel. He attended country school through the 8 grade. He farmed with his family until purchasing a farmstead and land of his own. He married Irma Skagen in 1984. They lived and farmed south of Mercer. They moved into Turtle Lake in 1984 but Melvin continued to farm until retiring in 1990.

During their retirement they enjoyed traveling and entertaining family and friends at their cabin on Brush Lake. Irma died in 2001 and Melvin continued to live in Turtle Lake. He moved to Bismarck in 2015.

Melvin enjoyed reading, his cats, playing cards, collecting toy tractors and farm machinery, and visiting with family and friends.

He is survived by his two stepsons, Theodore "Teddy" (Deb) Anderson of Billings, MT and Gary (Linda) Anderson of Turtle Lake; 6 step-grandchildren and several step-greatgrandchildren; his brothers, Elmer (Irene) Strobel of Bismarck, Milbert (Delma) Strobel of Des Moines, WA, Darwin (Janice) Strobel of Orangevale, CA and Jacob "Jack" (Gayle) Strobel of Rocklin, CA; his brothers-in-law, Earl "Ray" Bird of Fairview, MT and Bill Wagner of Suisun City, CA and several nieces and nephews.

Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, an infant brother Roy and his 6 sisters, Leona Ramsey, Frieda Hammack, Betty Rohweder, Marian Uhlich, Norma Bird and Mavis Wagner.

The family prefers memorials to Trinity Lutheran Church, Turtle Lake.
