Obituary

Mary Blotske, age 84 of Underwood, ND, died April 5th, 2013 at the Benedictine Living Center in Garrison, ND.

Funeral Services will be held 10:00 AM Thursday, April 11th at St. Bonaventure's Catholic Church in Underwood with Rev. Frank J. Schuster as celebrant.

Interment will be at 2:00 PM Thursday at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery - Mandan.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM Wednesday at St. Bonaventure's Catholic Church followed by a 7:00 PM Prayer Service.

Mary was born December 8th, 1928 in Carson, ND to Lawrence & Magdalena (Eickenlaub) Riehl. She was raised and educated in the Brisbane, ND area. Mary was united in marriage to John Blotske on February 7th, 1950 at the St. Theresa Catholic Church in Carson. They made their home in Selfridge, ND where Mary served as Treasurer of the city council and as city assessor for a short time. In 1968, they moved to Seattle, WA where Mary sold Tupperware and Avon products in the area. In 1970, they moved to Underwood, ND. Mary worked for several years with the kitchen staff of Prairieview Nursing Home and was employed as a cook for the Underwood Public School. She faithfully assisted her husband John with the family grain cleaning business for nearly 20 years, often working many long hour days. Mary served as ticket chairperson of the Christian Women's Club for 10 years. Her hobbies included crocheting and Hardanger embroidery. Mary loved to bake and cook special meals. She would bake kuchen and pies by the dozens. The Easter season was her favorite, as she would bake bunny rolls, dye eggs, and make Easter baskets for all the elderly people in town. Mary enjoyed telling jokes and pulling pranks and is remembered for her wonderful sense of humor.

She is survived by four sons & daughters-in-law, Allen (JoAnn) of Bismarck, Dale (Marcia), Joe (Laura), & John-John (Terri), all of Underwood; one daughter & son-in-law, Valerie (Curtis) Kinn of Underwood; 18 grandchildren & 12 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Dorothy Feigel of Modesto, CA, Emma Loeb of Mandan, & Lavina Martin of St. Francis, MN; and two sisters-in-law, Joan Riehl of Carson, ND, & Marie Riehl of Cannonball, ND.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and three brothers (John, Adam, & Theodore).
