Marvin Hofer, 88, Turtle Lake, ND died August 10, 2018 at Sanford Health, Bismarck, ND. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, August 16, 2018 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Turtle Lake with Pastor Sondra Krogstad officiating. Interment will be held in the Turtle Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Wednesday and one hour prior to the service on Thursday all at the church.
Marvin was born October 27, 1929 on the family farm near Turtle Lake the son of Jacob and Leontina (Schimke) Hofer. He attended school in Turtle Lake and graduated from Turtle Lake High School in 1947. He also attended some college at University of North Dakota and Minot State College. Marvin married Clarice Ockert on October 11, 1953 at Peace Lutheran Church in Turtle Lake. He farmed with his father before moving to Lodi, CA in 1957. They farmed and owned a grocery store in Lodi. They returned to Turtle Lake in 1959 where they continued to farm. Marvin retired from farming in 2012. During retirement Marvin and Clarice enjoyed traveling throughout the United States.
Marvin enjoyed bowling and was inducted into the North Dakota Bowling Hall of Fame in Jamestown, ND. He also enjoyed music, sports, eating out, shaking dice at Bev's café, playing bingo and was a very avid TLMM Trojan fan. Marvin and Clarice rarely missed a local sporting event. He was a member of many organizations and served on many boards, too numerous to mention.
He will always be remembered for his love of family, friends and the Turtle Lake community. Marvin will be missed by his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren,
Marvin is survived by his wife, Clarice of Turtle Lake; his daughters, Gayle Redmond of Turtle Lake (special friend, Ron Fiechtner of Butte, ND) and Connie (Bruce) Neumiller of Turtle Lake; a son-in-law, Les (Tammy) Lelm of Turtle Lake; his grandchildren, Mitch (Stacy) Neumiller, Carmen Maier, Sonja Redmond, Ryan (Brandi) Lelm and Brittany (TJ) Sathren; his great grandchildren, Cadence Maier, Peyton Neumiller, Reagan Neumiller, Kambree Neumiller, Redik Glaser, Hayden Lelm and Harper Sathren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Karen Lelm, a son-in-law, Thomas Redmond and his sisters, Lavina Hofer and Cassie (Roy) Hanning.
