Marvelena Hayes, age 65 of Turtle Lake, ND died Monday, March 16, 2009 at the Community Memorial Hospital in Turtle Lake.

Funeral Services: 11:00 AM Friday, March 20, 2009;
American Legion Hall - Turtle Lake;
Rev. Johnson Kuriappilly, Celebrant

Interment: 3:00 PM Friday at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, south of Mandan;

Visitation: 2:30 PM – 8:00 PM Thursday at Goetz Funeral Home – Turtle Lake;
Friday, one hour prior to time of service at the American Legion Hall.

Marvelena was born April 18, 1943 at Napoleon, ND to Peter & Martha (Vetter) Moch. She attended the Buchanan rural school near Hazelton, ND and graduated from Hazelton High School in 1961. Following high school, she worked at Russdon's Variety Store in Linton. She was also employed with the Emmons County Clerk of Court's Office for several years. Marvelena married Robert "Butch" Hayes on April 16, 1966 at Hazelton. They farmed near Moffit, ND from 1966 to 1975. In 1976, the couple moved to Turtle Lake, ND. Marvelena worked at Marv's Bar in Turtle Lake and as a bookkeeper for the Community Memorial Hospital for many years. She was most recently employed as a bookkeeper for the Cenex-Farmers Union station in Turtle Lake. Marvelena enjoyed gardening, raising flowers, playing bingo, and spending time with her beloved dog, "Chico".

She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Robert "Butch" Hayes of Turtle Lake; her mother, Martha Moch of Turtle Lake; one niece, Sheila (Mark) Sandeness of Bismarck and children, Heather, Brea, & Dylan; one nephew, Clyde Moch of Aberdeen, SD; aunt, Mary Ann Keyes of Spokane, WA; and sister-in-law, Adeline Moch of Bismarck, ND.

She was preceded in death by her father (Peter), one brother (George), and one nephew (Lyle Moch).
