Obituary

Martha "Marty" Staigle, 64, of Center, ND died April 29, 2017 at Sanford Health in Bismarck. Memorial services will be held 10:00 AM Saturday, May 13, 2017 at St. Martin's Catholic Church in Center, ND with Rev. John Guthrie as celebrant. Inurnment will be in the St. Martin's Catholic Cemetery. A time of fellowship and lunch will follow at the Center Civic Center.

Martha Marie Staigle, "Marty", was born March 8, 1953 in Belle Fourche, SD, the ninth of ten children born to Walter & Mary (Freidig) Staigle. In 1955, she moved with her family to Center, ND since the family relocated due to her father's failing health. She attended Center Public School and graduated from high school on May 26, 1971.

Marty waitressed and cooked at Betty's Café both while attending school and after graduation until securing the position of high school secretary at the Center Public School in August 1979. When Marty started working at the school she wanted the office to be a place where students could always come in for anything not just the old familiar "being sent to the office for disciplinary action." She accomplished it. Marty spent endless hours working evenings which allowed her time during the school day to assist the instructors and help out students with whatever the needed. Marty was Cheerleader and Prom Advisor throughout her tenure at the school. She worked on the Alternative After-Prom and After-Graduation party committees to ensure students would have a safe alternative to dangerous social activities. Marty was employed at the school until Mary 2004 when she took the position of receptionist for Extend America (a telecommunications company) in Bismarck. This position allowed her the privilege of working for former ND Governor Ed Schafer, who was the CEO of the company.

In February 2007, Marty was offered the position of Executive Administrative Assistant by the President of Odyssey Research in Bismarck. Her big joke was "You should have interviewed me before you hired me…..now you are stuck with me! After Odyssey Research closed in August 2012, she began her position as Office Manager of Harlow's Bus Service, Inc. Marty brought multi-tasking skills to a whole new level with having to learn to work with multi-companies. She credited her years working at the Center School for honing those skills. In August 2013, Marty joined the staff of Rud Oil & Transportation in Center, ending over 9 years of commuting to Bismarck for work. She loved working back in her home community and thoroughly enjoyed being employed by Gus & Sharon Rud. Marty enjoyed her work there because it was busy, but there was laughter in the office, which brought joy to her each day.

At the time of her death, Marty resided in Center and was a member of the St. Martin's Catholic Church where she was privileged to serve as a Eucharistic Minister. Marty enjoyed spending time with family, especially the time spent at the Scheetz Farm. Her mother gave her the house she grew up in after she went into the nursing home. Marty enjoyed working in the yard and it was a "labor of love" keeping it just like her mom would have liked it.

A special note to her niece, Mari Jo, thank you for the name "Nan". To her great nephews, Chance & Brody, thank you for the name "Peeks". To her niece, Charmayne Leinius, thank you for selflessly being there no matter what the need required.

Marty is survived by her sisters, Dorothy Wood of Hulett, WY, Marilyn (Kenny) Barnhardt of Bozeman, MT, Mary (Wyman) Scheetz of Center, ND, & Jeannie (David) Henke of Hannover, ND; her brothers, Tom (Paulette) Staigle of Glendive, MT, & Charles (Janet) Staigle of Center, ND; sisters-in-law, Sandy Perry Staigle of Florida and Betty Staigle of Bismarck and numerous nieces and nephews as well as great and great-great nieces & nephews; and many very special friends who were always just a phone call away.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers (William "Bill", Martin, & George Staigle), a sister-in-law (Marlene Staigle), a brother-in-law (Warren Wood), nieces (Jane Wood McKiney, & Pamela Barnhardt), nephews (Billy Staigle, Michael Barnhardt, & Shawn Scheetz), and her grandparents (Joseph & Rose Freidig and John & Ida Staigle).
