Marlys D. Slagg, 84, Turtle Lake, ND died July 1, 2018 at CHI Community Memorial Hospital, Turtle Lake. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Tuesday, July 10, 2018 at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, rural Turtle Lake with Pastor Randy Emgarten officiating. Interment will be held in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Monday at St. Olaf Lutheran Church. Visitation will continue one prior to the service on Tuesday at the church.
Marlys was born July 5, 1933 in Turtle Lake the daughter of William and Elsie (Ellingson) Carr. She was raised and educated in Turtle Lake. She graduated from Turtle Lake High School in 1951. Marlys married Marvin Slagg on May 2, 1954 at St. Olaf Lutheran Church. They lived in Washburn where Marlys worked at the McLean county courthouse in the Auditor's office. They moved to the family farm north of Turtle Lake in 1965. Marlys worked at the CHI Community Memorial Hospital in housekeeping for 15 years. Marvin died in 1996 and Marlys continued to live on the farm until 2005 when she moved into Turtle Lake. She became a resident of Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center in Bismarck in 2015.
She enjoyed playing the piano and organ, playing cards and baking. Marlys will most be remembered for her excellent potato salad and a mean game of "Aggravation".
Marlys was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church where she played the organ for many years and was a member of WELCA. She was also a member of the Turtle Lake American Legion Auxiliary.
Grateful to have shared in Marlys' life include her children, Wayne (Della) Slagg of Turtle Lake, Kevin (Sandy) Slagg of Turtle Lake, Julie (Tom) Wagner of Mercer, ND; her grandchildren, Jodi, Nadine, Cameron, Wyatt and Jaxson; her great grandchildren, Andrew, Shelby and Gabriel; her brother, Myron "Bud" (Jean) Carr of Denair, CA; her sister, Judy (Norman) Johnson of Jeffers, MN; her sister-in-law, Betty Carr of Minneapolis, MN and many nieces and nephews.
Marlys was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1996, and a brother Calvin Carr.
