Obituary

Marjorie "Margie" Laib, 79, Mercer, ND died Tuesday, October 1, 2024 at her residence under the care of her family and hospice.  Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Monday, October 7, 2024 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Mercer, ND with Pastor Sam Trottier and Pastor Paul Schauer officiating.  Burial will be in the Zion Cemetery, rural Mercer. The family invites everyone to the house in Mercer on Sunday, October 6 at 6:00pm for a time of sharing.

Marjorie was born on December 1, 1944, to Adam and Frances (Hulm) Johs. She grew up on a farm northeast of Hague, ND. She attended a country school in that area for 7 years and 1 year in the town of Hague. She moved to Bismarck in 1965 and started working at the St. Alexius Hospital as a Dietary Aide.

Margie met Allan Laib on a blind date and married the love of her life on February 4, 1967. They moved to Hopkins, MN where Allan got a job working for DeVac Window Corp and Margie sold Avon. Later building a home in Osseo, MN. In 1973, Allan and Margie, along with their four children (3 girls and 1 boy) moved back to Allan's family's farm in Mercer, North Dakota. A year later they completed their family with the birth of their last child. They raised all five of their children on this farm along with running a cattle and grain operation. Margie raised chickens every year to be butchered and sold eggs.  In 2000, she worked at the Turtle Lake-Mercer School for 1 year as a cook.  In 2002, Margie went to work at the Turtle Lake Hospital as the laundry supervisor for 8 years. In 2009, Allan and Margie moved into Mercer.

Margie was a loving mother and the perfect farm wife to her husband and children. She was an active member of the Our Savior's Lutheran Church, WELCA, American Legion Auxiliary and was a 4-H Leader for 8 years.

Margie and Allan enjoyed traveling with friends and family and had many wonderful adventures. She enjoyed quilting, gardening, bowling, camping and most of all spending time with family and friends.

Marjorie is survived by her husband, of 57 years, Allan Laib of Mercer; her five children: Sheila (Steve) Hoffert of Washburn, Stephanie (Darren) Ebach of Bismarck, Stacy (Lynn) Lelm of Bismarck, Sheldon (Anita) Laib of Mercer, and Scott (Diana) Laib of Bismarck; 14 grandchildren: Mandi (Curtiss) Kovash, Cody (Cali) Hoffert, Jesse (Brittany) Hoffert, Michael, Katelyn (Kyler), and Zachary Ebach, Neil (Chauntel) Lelm, Emily (Chase) Clayton, Ryeleigh, Rhea, Remington, and Rhett Laib, Kyle and Cami Laib; 7 great-grandchildren: Jeremy, Brianne, and Alexander Kovash, Brant Hoffert, Hayden Hoffert, Charlie Lelm, Myles Clayton; one brother, Leo (Sandy) Johs; two sisters: Levina Vetter and Irene (Jim) Rohrich; one sister-in-law, Tillie Johs and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, mother and father-in-law: Frieda and Emanuel Laib; one brother, Joe; brothers-in-law: George Vetter, Elmer Laib, Melvin Laib; sisters-in-law: Darliss Laib and LuElla Anderson.
