Marion Francis (LeMay) Madsen died peacefully in her sleep early Sunday morning, December 25, 2016. She was 92 years old. At the time of her passing, she was at Brookside Place in Redmond, Oregon.
Marion was born in Westhope, North Dakota on February 2, 1924 to Frank and Tressa LeMay. Marion attended grade school in the Westhope rural schools and attended sixth grade through high school in Antler, North Dakota. She worked hard on the farm and as a waitress in her home town.
On November 1, 1944, Marion married Wesley Madsen in Bottineau, North Dakota. From 1944-1955, they lived, farmed, worked, and started raising a family in Westhope. In 1955, Wes, Marion, and their children moved to Novato, California. Marion worked for the Marin County and Novato Community Hospitals and volunteered as an emergency services disaster worker for the County of Marin. Marion and Wes moved to Pollock Pines, California after she retired in 1981. After Wes passed in 1994, Marion lived with several children and grandchildren before returning to North Dakota and settling in Minot. Marion spent her later years in Bend and Redmond, Oregon. Marion was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to many. She is cherished and will be missed by everyone she touched.
Marion was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Tressa LeMay of Westhope, North Dakota; sister, Kathleen (LeMay) Stratton; brother, Francis "Bud" LeMay; brother, Eugene LeMay; brother, Robert LeMay; husband, Wesley Madsen, of Pollock Pines; daughter, Pamela Jean Madsen, of Westhope, North Dakota; and son, Daniel Wesley Madsen, of Sacramento, California.
Marion is survived by her brother, Wallace Lemay, of Canyonville, Oregon; daughter, Susan (Madsen) Ferguson of Yuma, Arizona; son, James Madsen and wife, Kathleen Madsen, of Bend, Oregon; daughter, Victoria (Madsen) Young and husband Mike Young of Alba, Texas; son, Allan Madsen of Manteca, California; 11 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild.
A celebration of Marion's life and a graveside service with family will be planned for a later date. Marion will be buried alongside her husband, Wes, at the Westhope Cemetery in Westhope, North Dakota. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Paul Sannes at Goetz Funeral Homes.
