Marion K. Knudtson, 90, formerly of Washburn, ND, died November 20, 2014 in a Bismarck care center. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Monday, November 24, 2014 at First Lutheran Church, Washburn, ND with Reverend Erik Johnson officiating. Burial will be in the Riverview Cemetery, Washburn. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM Sunday at Goetz Funeral Home, Washburn. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service on Monday at the church.
Marion was born on May 2, 1924 on a farm near Washburn, ND, the son of Knudt and Miranda (Berg) Knudtson. Miranda died after the birth of Marion and Knudt died when Marion was nine years old. Marion was raised by his grandparents, Rosanna and Martin Berg. He attended rural school in Clear Lake Township and graduated from the Tuttle High School in 1942. He moved to Washburn in 1946 to farm the original Knudtson homestead. Marion married Doris Holtan on March 15, 1952 in Washburn. Following their marriage, they farmed and raised Hereford cattle. Marion also worked for Farmers Union/Cenex in Washburn where he worked in the fertilizer and chemical dept. for 19 years. He retired from Cenex in 1986. During their retirement, they remained on the farm. Doris died on August 25, 1998. Marion remained on the farm until entering the Baptist Health Care Center in January of 2007. Marion enjoyed hunting, especially deer hunting. He also hosted many deer camps which many people enjoyed.
He is survived by his sons: Larry (Carol) Knudtson, Bismarck, ND and Lamar (Marcy) Knudtson, Lake Villa, IL; a daughter, Loralee (Kenneth) Heiser, Bismarck, ND; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; 3 step grandchildren and 2 step great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife in 1998 and a grandson, Jack Knudtson in 2013.
