Obituary

Midge Whitlock, age 97 of Washburn, ND died Tuesday, October 14, 2008 at a Bismarck hospital.

Funeral Services: 2:00 PM Monday, October 20, 2008;
Washburn United Methodist Church;
Rev. Marvin Winstryg, Officiating

Interment: Riverview Cemetery – Washburn, ND

Visitation: 4:00 – 8:00 PM Sunday at Goetz Funeral Home – Washburn;
Monday, one hour prior to time of service at the church.

Margaret "Midge" was born April 20, 1911 at Washburn, ND to John & Pauline (Myers) Wiese. She attended school in Washburn and graduated from Washburn High School in 1930. She continued her education at Valley City State Teachers College and received a teaching certificate. Midge returned to the Washburn area and taught for two years at the Everson School, a rural school seven miles northeast of Washburn. She then worked for the Washburn Telephone Company as a switchboard operator for several years. She married Harold Whitlock on June 15, 1935 in Minot, ND. In 1936, they moved to Bismarck where they owned and operated a Standard Oil service station until 1940. Harold & Midge moved to the Port Huron, MI area for a short time where Harold worked as a welder and pipefitter. In 1942, they moved to Bremerton, WA where Harold worked at the Bremerton Navy Shipyard. They returned to Washburn in 1947 and purchased the Standard Oil service station which they operated until 1952. Midge worked as a part-time clerk at the Washburn Post Office for many years. Her husband, Harold, passed away in February 1993. Midge's hobbies included bowling and gardening. She enjoyed tending to her garden for many years. Midge is remembered for her independent living up until the day she went to be with the Lord. She was a long-time member of the Washburn United Methodist Church.

She is survived by one son, Terry (Loretta) Whitlock of Tumwater, WA; one daughter, Karen Whitlock of Minneapolis, MN; three grandchildren, Eric Starke, Steve Whitlock, & Wendy Shacklett; & one great grandchild, Willow Shacklett; one brother, Jack (Alice) Wiese of Washburn; two sisters, Dorothy Fahlgren of Washburn, and Lucille Grobelbe of Hemet, CA; and many nieces & nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband (Harold), brother (Bill Wiese), & sister (Bernie Londick).
