Obituary

THE FUNERAL SERVICE OF MARDELLA WILL BE LIVESTREAMED AT THE BOTTOM OF HER OBITUARY ON THIS PAGE.

Mardella D. Aanderud, 87, Beulah, ND died May 23, 2022 at Knife River Care Center, Beulah.  Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, May 27, 2022 at First Lutheran Church, Washburn, ND with Pastor Chuck Mann officiating.  Interment will be held in the Riverview Cemetery, Washburn.  Visitation will be held on Thursday from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM with a 7:00 PM prayer service all at the church in Washburn.

Mardella was born September 1, 1934 in Zap, ND the daughter of Reinhold and Teoleda (Buechler) Klaus.  She was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Zap.  She attended school in Zap and graduated from Zap High School in 1952.  Mardella worked as an usher at the Zap movie theater and as an operator for the local telephone company in Zap.  Mardella first met Richard Aanderud while attending Zap Elementary School and later became high school sweethearts. They were married on July 2, 1954 in Zap.  They lived in Fargo, ND where Richard attended college and Mardella supported them while working at the state capital in Bismarck.  Richard graduated from college and they moved to Rockford, IL and later to Beulah.  They also lived in Mandan and Washburn.  Mardella moved to her lake home in 1992 and moved into Beulah in 2007.

She was a member of the Mandan Elks and the Mandan American Legion Auxilary.  She was a member of many churches throughout her life which include, Immanuel Lutheran Church in Zap, Zion Lutheran Church in Beulah and First Lutheran Church in Mandan and Washburn.

Mardella enjoyed playing cards, bowling, darts, German cooking and baking, especially her buns and bread.  She will always be remembered for her love of her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughters, Janet (Brian) Lazier of Washburn, Melanie (Kris) Beckman of Washburn, Jayne (Clark) Pochant of Hensler and Marsha (Keith) Schneider of Hazen; her 14 grandchildren, Michael (Machelle) Pochant, Jaimi Pochant, Tiffany (Josh) Schmitz, Amanda (Tyler) Vetter, Brianna (John) Sayler, Kaitlynn (Taiton) Carlson, Chelsey (Dana) Brandt, Brandon Lazier, Mariya Schneider, Parker Pochant, Patrick Pochant, Matthew Schneider, Cole Schneider, Tucker Schneider; her 16 great grandchildren and a great-great grandchild; her sister, Delora Nathan of Mesa, AZ; her sister-in-law, Lois Klaus of Titusville, FL and many nieces and nephews.

Mardella was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1989 and three brothers, Leroy, Calvin and Alvin.
