Lulu Lester, age 105 of Wilton, ND died June 24th, 2011 at the Prairieview Nursing Home in Underwood.
A memorial service will be held 10:00 AM Wednesday, June 29th at the United Methodist Church in Washburn with Pastor Peder Anderson officiating. Inurnment will take place at a later date at the Grace City Cemetery.
Lulu Gladys (Stephenson) Lester was born March 8th, 1906 is Owego Township in Ransom County, North Dakota to Samuel & Anna Belle (Flatters) Stephenson. As a child her family moved to a farm south of Grace City, ND. Lulu attended a country school near Grace City and later started high school but did not finish. She married Barney Lester of Dec. 26, 1925 in Carrington, ND. Together they had three children, Donald, Frank, & Mary Louise. They lived in various locations in Wisconsin, Montana, & Washington, and farming near Juanita, ND. They moved to Mandan in the early 1950's and to Bismarck in 1963. In 1966, Lulu and Barney made their home on a farm south of Wilton where they farmed until 1984, then moving to a home in Wilton. Barney passed away on August 14th, 1985 and Lulu continued to reside in Wilton. She became a resident of the Redwood Village in Wilton in 1995 living there until October 22, 2010 when she moved to the Prairieview Nursing Home. Lulu is remembered for her sense of humor and being a wonderful person.
She is survived by her son & daughter-in-law, Frank & Diana Lester of Washburn; three grandsons, Bill (Donna) Lester of Bismarck, Daniel (Colleen) Lester of Glendale, AZ, & Wayne Lester of San Antonio, TX; two granddaughters, Christine Kjonaas of Duluth, MN, & Pamela (Les) Kuntz of Redlands, CA; six great grandsons, five great granddaughters, three great-great grandsons, & two great-great granddaughters; four sisters, Annabelle Garland of Apache Junction, AZ, Darleen Garland of Queens Creek, AZ, Inez Halquist of Tacoma, WA, & Polly Gustin of Bismarck.
Lulu was preceded in death by her husband (Barney), one son (Donald), one daughter (Mary Louise), three sisters (Esther, Vera, & Della), four brothers (Jack, Bill, Roy, & Earl).
