Lui J. Ravnaas, 86, Turtle Lake, ND died December 30, 2023 in the CHI Community Memorial Hospital, Turtle Lake.  Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, January 6, 2024 at the Turtle Lake Baptist Church with Pastor Steve Vetter officiating.  Interment will be held in the Turtle Lake Cemetery.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church.  The service will be livestreamed at the bottom of his obituary.

Lui was born on April 3, 1937 on a farm near Ruso, ND.  He was the first child born to Orvin and Ragnhild (Larson) Ravnaas.  He attended country school and graduated from Turtle Lake High School in 1955.

Lui taught country school for two years before graduating from Minot State Teachers College.  Lui accepted a teaching position in Westhope, ND in 1960. Lui married Carol Solheim on June 11, 1961 in Maddock, ND.  Together they taught school in Westhope until 1964 when they moved to Turtle Lake.   Lui taught high school science and later became the principal.  He received his Master's Degree in chemistry and school administration from NDSU in 1967.

Lui also farmed north of Turtle Lake while he was teaching.  Lui was a beloved educator who touched the lives of countless students.  His dedication and commitment to the students will not be soon forgotten.

Lui enjoyed collecting guns and books of particular authors.  He was a loving and supportive husband, father and grandfather.

Lui is survived by his son, Jon (Rachel) Ravnaas, Ruso, ND; daughter, Debra (Rob) Forward, Bismarck, ND; grandson, Jack Forward, Bismarck; brothers:  Orvin Jr. (Delores) Ravnaas, Turtle Lake, Leif (Rosalind) Ravnaas, Valley City, Maureen Wacker, Grand Forks, Bonnie (Clyde) Nelson, Turtle Lake, and Lydia (Garry) Breitkreuz, Springside, Saskatchewan, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife in September of 2023, and a brother, Paul.
