Louis "Bud" Stengel, age 90 of Underwood, ND passed away Tuesday, January 11th, 2011 at the Prairieview Nursing Home in Underwood.

Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM Monday, Jan. 17th at the Underwood United Methodist Church with Pastor Darrel Aleson officiating.

Interment will take place at a later date at the Underwood Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM Sunday at Goetz Funeral Home in Underwood and continue Monday, one hour prior to time of service at the church.

Louis "Bud" was born March 6, 1920 near Underwood, ND to Amil & Arnetta (Buffington) Stengel. He was raised on his parent's farm west of Underwood and attended rural school. He married Elnora Hoff on August 18, 1942 in Glendive, MT. Bud entered the U.S. Army in 1942 and was honorably discharged in 1945. He and Elnora made their home on a farm six miles northeast of Underwood where they farmed and raised dairy cattle for many years. Together they raised four children and also cared for many foster children. Bud was a very kind and gentle man who loved his family and his little black dog, "Spike". He is remembered for his ability to build or fix nearly anything. He was a member of the VFW Post 6940 in Underwood and a member of the Underwood United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Elnora Stengel of Underwood; three daughters, Sharleen (Ted) Thorson of Los Altos, CA, Zona (Darrell) O'Shea of Turtle Lake, Jackie (James) Coutts of Underwood; one son, Louis W. (Dorothy) Stengel, Jr. of Underwood; 13 grandchildren, & 15 great grandchildren; two foster children, Sherrylee (Jeff) Johnson of Pierre, SD, & George Morsette of Bismarck.

He was preceded in death by five sisters, three brothers, one daughter-in-law (Linda Stengel), & one son-in-law (Scott Krumwiede).
