Obituary

Lois Mae Werre, age 86, of Underwood, died Friday, Jan. 24, 2020, at her home with family by her side.

Lois was born Sept. 25, 1933, at the family farm near Hankinson to Otto and Jesse Muehler. She went to school in Hankinson, following up her high school education with one year of college in Wahpeton, which is where she met the man she would marry, George Werre.

They were united in marriage Nov. 2, 1952, in Fargo. She and George started their life together in Napoleon, before moving to Underwood in 1955. Together they raised their children, Steve, Brenda, Wanda and Dave. She was a proud homemaker, who enjoyed her full-time job raising her four kids. She and George had a huge garden for many years, with Lois particularly enjoying her flower garden. She enjoyed canning and getting in on the family sausage making. She took her job of sprinkling the seasoning very seriously.

She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, where she was the church organist for many years. She was also an active member of the St. John's Ladies Aid and in her recent years the Underwood Senior Citizens Center, enjoying Bone Builders and playing cards.

Lois loved a good game of cards, enjoying a good competitive game of pinochle, cut-throat rummy or cribbage.

She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren whenever she could, and even their friends, often bringing out ice cream treats as the members of the high school track team ran by her house.

She could often be seen walking her Ragdoll cats, Rudy and Riley, out in her yard.

She is survived by three of her children, Steve (Patti) Werre; Brenda (Gary) Ohnstad; Wanda (Dale) Erhardt; and one daughter-in-law, Suzanne (Dave) Werre; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one sister Miriam "Tudie" (Mel) Johnson.

She was preceded in death by her husband George; son, Dave; her parents; brothers, Elroy, Kenneth, Floyd, Alvin and Harold, and her sister Alice.

Lois will be laid to rest Wednesday at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery south of Mandan at 11 a.m. Lois requested that no other memorial service be held.
