Obituary

LeRoy Addison Parks, 70, Turtle Lake, ND was peacefully called home to our Lord on Memorial Day, May 28th, 2018 following a courageous and graceful battle with congestive heart failure. Memorial services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, June 16, 2018 at Turtle Lake Baptist Church with Pastor Steve Vetter officiating.

LeRoy was born on December 1, 1947 to Addison "Buster" and Bernice (Scheer) Parks in Turtle Lake, ND and grew up on the "Twin Butte Ranch" family farm south of Turtle Lake. He attended Turtle Lake-Mercer High School where he was known as the "smallest guy but best grappler" in his high school class. LeRoy received many awards, trophies, and much recognition during his time as a wrestler, as he was one of the best in the state. Following high school, he attended North Dakota State University and was majoring in the pharmaceutical field until he decided his true calling was to farm the land and raise cattle. LeRoy returned to help his dad with the family farming/ranching operation, where he continued until retirement.

LeRoy married Judie Ann Blotter in Reno, NV on October 26, 1973. They raised two children; Melissa Rae Parks and Justin LeRoy Parks. LeRoy had two additional, beautiful daughters from a later marriage; Kimberly Jo and Desika Ralyn.

LeRoy enjoyed playing softball with his Turtle Lake teammates Harvey Sellon, Bob Landsiedel, Randy Anderson, and Stan Tomlinson (to name a few). He was a true outdoorsman, spending many spring fishing trips heading north in the "Old Mother Bus" with his family and good Canadian friends at Lake Maraiche and various other lakes near Flin Flon, Manitoba. LeRoy loved to fish locally at Van Hook with his good friends Lonnie and Gene and the Kaylor family, and was well known for his famous "Walleye Call". West Park Lake was another of LeRoy's favorite spots to drop in a line, especially during the traditional Father's Day weekend outing each year. He loved to deer hunt with his son Justin, daughter Melissa, grandson Coleman, nephew Mike Joblinski, and neighbor Warren Bergquist and looked forward each year to the annual poker game at deer camp. LeRoy cherished his neighbors and good friends and enjoyed riding his motorcycle up to see "Uncle Bob", Kenny Olson, and Warren Bergquist for a visit, a cold beer, or to help with chores.

During his quieter years, he enjoyed growing tomatoes in the flower beds, tending to his cats, watching nature from his front porch, and listening to the "Lutheran and Polka" hours on his trusty old radio. LeRoy had a special love in his heart for the little ones and took every opportunity to hold a baby. One of the highlights during the past year was watching his buddy Matthew Kaylor win the ND state wrestling championship.

LeRoy will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by his son, Justin (Andrea) Parks (Ava, Norah), Grand Forks; daughters, Melissa Parks (Coleman), Bismarck, Kimberly Olson (Kendal), Bismarck, Desika (Mitch) Chute, Flin Flon, Manitoba; brother, Mark (Carol) Parks (Aaron, Nathan, Benjamin, Brittany, Jessica), Howell, MI; sisters, Coreen Joblinski-Freier (Tana, Greg, Mike), Bismarck, Myrna (Loren) Corum (Steve, Dave, Brent, Natisha), Grafton; nieces and nephew (Cindy, Nikki, Lori, Mollie, Claire, Carmen, Jimmy Jr.); former wife, Judie Reppen (Hazen); and numerous relatives, neighbors, and friends.

LeRoy was preceded in death by his parents, Addison and Bernice Parks; brother, Jim Parks; and brothers-in-law, Tom Joblinski and Larry Freier.
