Leroy "Roy" Franklin Evans was born October 5, 1914 in Winfred, SD to Evan E. & Mary (Croninger) Evans. At the age of 2 ½ months, his family moved to a farm south of Turtle Lake, ND where he resided for the next 92 years. His family included six brothers and one sister. He attended the Koenig rural grade school and because of his desire to play football, he moved along with several classmates to a home in Washburn called the "Boar's Nest". Roy graduated from Washburn High School with the Class of 1934. He made many lasting friendships during his high school career. Following high school, he went to work for a threshing crew and worked for the Charley Hanson farm at harvest time. At this time, he met the love of his life, Dorothy Hanson, and he purchased her an engagement ring costing only $19 in 1938 (now valued over $700). They were united in marriage on July 3, 1938 at the United Methodist Parsonage in Turtle Lake. That evening many friends and family enjoyed homemade ice cream and braved a windy rainstorm that blew down the only tree in the their farmyard. He and Dorothy became members of the Turtle Lake United Methodist Church and the Lord was the center of their long and enriching marriage. Dorothy passed away in 2007.

He served on several church boards and taught Sunday School for many years. He was a farmer and rancher at heart and enjoyed hunting deer in the Fall with his last active hunt occurring in November 2006. Roy served as an active member of the Gideons for several years. He also served on the Equity Elevator, the Community Memorial Hospital, and the McLean Mutual Insurance Board of Directors. He volunteered as a 4-H Leader and at the Asbury Camp in Washburn for one week each year. Roy was a member of the Turtle Lake Lions Club for many years.

He is survived by his son, Robert "Bob" Evans of Turtle Lake; two grandchildren, Terri Lynn (Nathan) Phelps of Turtle Lake, and Brandon Jon (Tara) Evans of Turtle Lake; four great-grandchildren, Samantha & Cody Phelps, and Trestan & Belle Evans; one brother, Cecil (Annette) Evans of Littleton, CO; two sisters-in-law, Alice Evans of Wahpeton, ND, & Ruby V. Hanson of Bismarck; and many nieces & nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife (Dorothy), daughter-in-law (Peg Evans), two infant brothers (Dewey & Llewellyn), one sister (Irene), three brothers (Elmer, Ernest, & Ezra), and brother-in-law (Leonard Hanson).
