Leona was born May 31, 1919 in Alta, Burleigh County, ND. She attended Turtle Lake Public School through 11th Grade and then graduated in 1938 from George Washington High School in San Francisco CA. In 1939, she was married to Emmanuel Klein and lived on their family farm near Washburn until his death in 1954. They were blessed with 4 sons.

After living in Turtle Lake for the next six years, she married August Schiller in 1960 and lived on his family farm north of Mercer. Leona was a lifetime member of the Turtle Lake Baptist Church where she was involved in the church music program, choir, teaching Sunday School, serving with the Women's Missionary Fellowship and other ministry areas. She loved to listen to the children recite their Bible verses in AWANA. She was especially devoted to prayer and study of the Bible. Leona was also active in serving her community of Turtle Lake, the Hospital Auxiliary and other civic projects.
