Leona M. Goven, 91, of Turtle Lake, ND died October 31, 2017 at the CHI St. Alexius Community Memorial Hospital in Turtle Lake.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 AM Saturday, November 4 th at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Turtle Lake with Fr. Patrick Cunningham as celebrant. Interment will follow in the Turtle Lake Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM Friday at St. Catherine's Church followed by 7:30 PM Prayer Service.
Leona was born January 11, 1926 near Mercer, ND to Fred & Mathilda (Naher) Wagner. She attended school in Mercer. Leona married Donald "Buster" Goven on September 9, 1945 in Underwood, ND. They farmed together south of Turtle Lake for many years until retiring in 1984. In retirement, they made their home in Turtle Lake. Leona enjoyed crocheting and embroidery. She loved to go dancing in her earlier years, play pinochle, and Aggravation (marble game). She also enjoyed traveling and birdwatching. Leona was known for keeping an immaculate yard. She took great pride in her well landscaped lawn and flower beds. She was proud of her grandchildren and greatly enjoyed spending time with them. Leona was a former member of the Red Trail Homemakers Club, the Red Hats Society, and the St. Catherine's Altar Society.
She is survived by her children, Gene (Christine) Goven of Turtle Lake, Lois (Richard) Jorstad of Maple Grove, MN, Greg (Jane) Goven of Scottsdale, AZ, Nicholas (Clara) Goven of Turtle Lake, Joyce (Jay) Klawon of Hamilton, MT, Ione (Shawn) Kukowski of Belgrade, MT, and Todd (Mary) Goven of Turtle Lake; 15 grandchildren & 17 great-grandchildren; one sister, Erna Schock of Miles City, MT; one brother, Meinhardt Wagner of Bismarck; and a sister-in-law, Mirney Wagner of Walla Walla, WA.
Leona was preceded in death by her husband Donald "Buster" in 1995; four infant sibling;, four sisters (Emma, Madge, Louise, & Clara); and four brothers (Rudy, Edwin, Otto, & Albert) and a great granddaughter (Taylor Goven).
The family would like to extend a special acknowledgement to the staff of CHI St. Alexius Community Memorial Hospital swing-bed unit for their special care for Leona.
Memorials are preferred to the Community Memorial Hospital Association or the Turtle Lake Cemetery.
