Leona K. Ash, 95, formerly of Underwood, ND died Oct. 5, 2013 in the Benedictine Living Center, Garrison, ND. Funeral Services will be held 10:00 AM Tuesday, October 8. 2013 at the Augustana Lutheran Church Underwood, ND. with the Reverend Curt Hanson officiating. Interment will be held in the Birka Lutheran Cemetery, Underwood. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Monday, October 7, 2013 at Goetz Funeral Home, Underwood. and will continue for one hour before the services at the church.

Leona was born on October 4, 1918 on a farm near Washburn, the daughter of Carl and Martha (Anderson) Gustafson. She attended country school west of Washburn. Leona worked for Johnson's Dairy prior to her marriage. Leona married Victor E. Ash on January 30, 1941 in Underwood, ND. Following their marriage, they purchased a farm in the fall of 1941 where they lived and farmed until moving to the Prairieview Nursing Home in November of 2004. Victor died on March 2, 2005. Leona continued to live at Prairieview Nursing Homr until entering the Benedictine Living Center in February of 2013. She enjoyed playing piano and organ, gardening, canning, sewing and visiting with family and friends. She was a member of WELCA, and she also taught Sunday school. She was a weather observer for the National Weather Service for 32 years.

She is survived by her three sons and daughters-in-law: Duaine and Barbara Ash, Devils Lake, ND, Larry and Sandy Ash, Mesa, AZ, and Darrel and Linda Ash, Underwood, ND; eight grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren; a sister, Margaret Travers, Sallisaw, OK; a sister-in-law: Ruby Gensler, Longview, WA; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 2005; two brothers: Lester and Warren; and a sister, Geraldine Lenzen.
