Obituary

Leon Weisenburger, Sr., age 63 of Underwood, ND died Saturday, December 12 at a Bismarck hospital after a brief battle with cancer.

A memorial service will be held 2:00 PM Thursday, Dec. 17 at Augustana Lutheran Church in Underwood with Pastor Joel Sherer, officiating. Interment of his cremains will be held at a later date in Tuttle, ND.

Leon was born April 5, 1946 in Bismarck, ND to John and Lydia (Ochsner) Weisenburger. He was raised and attended school in Tuttle, ND. At the age of 14, he left the family farm and worked various jobs between Tuttle and Missoula, MT.

In 1979, Leon and his family moved to Underwood, ND. Leon worked at the Falkirk Mine for over 20 years before his retirement. Following his retirement, Leon kept himself busy cutting firewood, moving snow, and working for Coal Creek Construction.

He enjoyed hunting with his dog ("Jack"), fishing, camping, and spending time with his grandkids. He also loved sitting around a campfire visiting with friends and family. Leon was a very competitive pinochle player – just ask anybody who tried to get a bid.

Survivors include his two sons, Leon (Kellie) of Underwood and Clinton (Jennifer) of Bismarck; his 3 grandchildren, Braden and Bailey of Bismarck, and Rylee of Underwood; brothers, Wilbert (Debbie) of Fessenden, ND, Donnie (Eunice) of Tuttle, ND, Glendell (Betty) and Arley (Sylvia) of Seeley Lake, MT, and Gary and Garold of Underwood; sisters, Janice (Andy) Anderson of Bismarck, Rachel Wolff of Tuttle, Gladys Clapham of Missoula, MT, and Mildred (Vern) Rask of Randle, WA; brother-in-law, Alvin Gruebele of Missoula MT; sister-in-law, Julie Weisenburger of Bismarck; and many nieces & nephews.

Leon was preceded In death by his parents (John and Lydia), brothers (Maynard and Stanley Weisenburger), sister (Shirley Gruebele), brothers-in-law (Jim Clapham & Julius Wolff) and sister-in-law (Vivian Weisenburger).
