Lela Arne, age 96 of Turtle Lake, ND was reunited with her Creator and Savior on May 24th, 2009. She was an inpatient at the Community Memorial Hospital in Turtle Lake.
Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, May 27 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Turtle Lake, with Rev. Betty J. Stedman, officiating.
Interment will follow at the Turtle Lake Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM – 9:00 PM Tuesday at Goetz Funeral Home in Turtle Lake, and continue Wednesday one hour prior to time of service at the church.
Lela (Burchell) Arne was born on December 10th, 1912 at rural Turtle Lake, ND the daughter of Milton and Mary (Peterson) Burchell. She attended rural schools in the Turtle Lake area. Lela married Henry Arne on December 12th, 1929. Lela and Henry had four daughters, Jean, DeLores, Mary Ann, and Linda. Lela worked at the Turtle Lake Cleaners and was a cook at the Turtle Lake Hospital for 13 years. She worked for Lindteigen Construction for four years, and in 1969 she returned to work at the Turtle Lake Hospital as a Nurse's Aide where she worked for a number of years. After retiring from the hospital, Lela continued to care for the elderly, who were usually younger than her, for several more years.
Lela was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where she served as Sunday school teacher and spent many hours quilting with the women's group. She was also a Girl Scout leader, and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Lela enjoyed spending time with her friends and family, especially her many grandchildren. Lela enjoyed making crafts with her grandchildren , teaching them to embroider, and watching them in their many activities. Lela was known for her baking skills. Her sugar cookies and apple pies were a big hit with her grandchildren. Lela also enjoyed spending time at the Senior Center.
Lela is survived by four daughters; Jean Pailing of Bismarck, DeLores Buchholz of Minot, Mary Ann (Lonnie) Kemmit of Turtle Lake, and Linda (Ernest) Schock of Turtle Lake; 11 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, 10 great-great grandchildren, and 1 great-great-great grandchild; one sister, Marjorie Counley of Coachella, CA; & one brother-in-law, Herbert Heinle of Casselton, ND.
She was preceded in death by her husband (Henry Arne), four brothers, three sisters, two sons-in-law, three grandchildren and one great grandchild.
