Obituary

Layton "Husky" Eisenmann, age 77 of Bismarck, formerly of Underwood, ND, died Saturday, January 10, 2009 at the Community Memorial Hospital in Turtle Lake, ND after a courageous one year battle with cancer.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 AM Tuesday, Jan. 13 at St. Bonaventure's Catholic Church in Underwood. Rev. Frank J. Schuster, Celebrant.

Burial will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery – Mandan. Military Rites provided by the V.F.W. Honor Guard #1326.

Visitation will be from 4:30 PM – 7:00 PM Monday at the church with a 7:00 PM Prayer Service; and Tuesday, one hour prior to time of service.

Layton C. "Husky" Eisenmann was born June 17, 1931 in Underwood, ND. Husky was raised and educated in Underwood and graduated from Underwood High School in 1949. He entered the U.S. Navy & served his country until 1954. On June 13, 1956, he married Donna Retterath at St. Martin's Catholic Church in Hazen.

He was employed by Neary Livestock in Underwood & later Schlichenmayer Livestock in Turtle Lake. He also worked for Bitz Auction in Turtle Lake until 1975. Husky moved to Washburn & was employed by the Glen Harold Coal Mine, which later became Basin Electric. He retired from Basin Electric in 1997 and later worked for Western Horizons in the Beulah & Hazen areas doing reclamation work.

Husky truly loved the outdoors. He enjoyed traveling and following sports-related events. He also enjoyed spending quality time with his grandchildren & great-grandchildren. Husky was a member of the American Legion Victor B. Wallin Post in Washburn. He had many friends & was loved by all of them. His sense of humor and laugh will never be forgotten. Husky will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Donna Eisenmann of Bismarck; one daughter, Mary Beth (Arthur) Stenkamp of Rapid City, SD; two sons, Bob Eisenmann of Ogden, UT and Joe (Beth) Eisenmann of East Lansing, MI; daughter-in-law, Beth Eisenmann of Salt Lake City, UT; 7 grandchildren; Ryan (Mandy) Stenkamp & Mitchell (Amanda) Stenkamp, Keri, Mason & Matthew Miller, Jessie Eisenmann & Kaleb Herbel-Eisenmann; 8 great-grandchildren; one sister, Frances "Pee-Wee" (Marvin) Schuh of Underwood; sisters-in-law; Rita Kent of Beulah, Jane Pearson of Hazen & Kathy (Curtis) Birst of Washburn; brothers-in-law; Bill (Carol) Retterath of Center & Jim (Gloria) Retterath of Stanton; and several nieces & nephews that meant very much to him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank & Elizabeth; father- in-law & mother-in-law, Leonard & Dorothy Retterath; one daughter, Lynne Miller; one brother, Howard (Evelyn) Eisenmann; two sisters, Florence (Don) Scott & Joanne (Gordon) Wirtzfeld; one daughter-in-law, Wendy Eisenmann; two brothers-in-law, Bill Kent and Neal Pearson; one nephew, Kirby Pearson; and a great friend, John Heier.
