Larry D. Tiefenthaler, age 76 of Washburn, ND passed away peacefully on June 9th, 2011 at a Bismarck hospital surrounded by his loving family.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 A.M. Monday, June 13th at St. Edwin's Catholic Church in Washburn with Rev. Frank J. Schuster as celebrant. Interment will follow at Riverview Cemetery in Washburn. Honors will be provided by the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus.
A prayer service will be held at 7:00 PM Sunday at the church. There will be no prior visitation.
Larry was born August 16, 1934 in Butte, Nebraska the second of five children born to Joseph & Angela (Schrad) Tiefenthaler. On September 27, 1954 he married his loving wife of 56 years, Wilma (Willie) Rall at St. Leo's Catholic Church in Minot, ND. Together they traveled through many Midwest states with his employment as a Boilermaker Local 647. They settled in Washburn in 1973. Larry retired in 1994 after working as a Boilermaker for 45 years. He was a very active member of St. Edwin's Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. Larry enjoyed gardening, woodcarving, hunting, and fishing. He was an avid reader and enjoyed playing cards and shooting pool at the Washburn Senior Center. Larry also enjoyed attending gun shows where he could buy, sell, trade, and repair many guns. He was instrumental in the construction of the Washburn fish cleaning station. Larry thoroughly enjoyed his children, grandchildren, & great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Willie Tiefenthaler of Washburn; five daughters, Peggy (Rich) Peterson of Fargo, Jo (Randy) Smith of Silver Lake, KS, Linda (Dennis) Wang of Bismarck, Laura (Joe) Blotske of Underwood, & Angie (Stuart) Rothe of Newburg, ND; three sons, Mick Tiefenthaler of Gillette, WY, Bill (Helene) Tiefenthaler of Laurel, MT, & Dan (Kathi) Tiefenthaler of Helena, MT; 18 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, & one great-great grandchild; one brother, Ken Tiefenthaler of Wagner, SD; & one sister, Betty Westendorf of Woodsocket, SD.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother (Bob), one sister (Shirley Hahn), & one granddaughter (Sara Tiefenthaler).
Memorials are preferred to the St. Alexius Hospice Memorial Fund.
