Larry Jay Knudtson, 69, died April 13, 2025, in Bismarck, ND.  Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Thursday, April 17, 2025, at First Lutheran Church, Washburn, ND with Pastor Paul Krueger officiating. Burial will be in the Riverview Cemetery, Washburn. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Wednesday April 16 at Goetz Funeral Home, Washburn.  Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the church.

Larry was born on September 22, 1955, in Bismarck, ND, the son of Marion and Doris (Holtan) Knudtson. He was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church and attended school in Washburn where he was active in FFA, 4H and choir, graduating from Washburn High School in 1973. After growing up on the family farm, he attended Bismarck State College (formerly Bismarck Junior College) and later graduated from North Dakota State University with a degree in Agricultural Economics.

He married Carol Grantham on September 21, 1985, in Washburn, thereby becoming a "Bonus Dad" to Tracy, Mindy and Darin.  Following their marriage, they remained in Bismarck where Larry was employed as a ND State Water Commission Analyst, retiring in 2013.  Larry recently became a resident at Edgewood Bismarck Senior Living.

Larry was very proud of his Norwegian heritage, making Lefse, eating lutefisk and even traveling to Norway.  He made several trips to Alaska camping and was always ready for another excuse to head north again. He liked gardening and doing things around the farm.  Larry enjoyed deer hunting the most, with the annual deer hunting camp at the farm with friends and relatives being the highlight.  Besides deer, he spent a lot of time in the field chasing pheasants, grouse and geese with the many Springer Spaniel dogs he had and loved so much.  While growing up on the Missouri River, his main focus was always walleye fishing but later caught the salmon fishing bug.  Larry had a great sense of humor and a good memory for jokes and stories that were told and often re-told.

He is survived by his kids: Tracy (Pam) Bergerson, Mindy Grantham, Darin (Amber) Grantham, a Sister, Loralee (Kenneth) Heiser, Brother Lamar (Marcy) Knudtson; Nieces Jocelyn (Wade) Long, Jana (Loren) Fuhrer; Nephews Cory (Allison) Heiser and David Knudtson; Grandchildren Max, Carly and Colbie.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents and a nephew, Jack Knudtson in 2013.

The family would like to thank the staff of Edgewood for their excellent care they provided Larry.
