L. Rose Winn, age 86 of Washburn, ND died Thursday, October 2, 2008 at her son's home near Washburn.

Visitation: 3:00 PM-6:00 PM Sunday at Goetz Funeral Home in Washburn;

Rose was born July 22, 1922 in Selz, ND, the first child of John and Ida (Seefeld) Hager. The family moved to Coleharbor, ND where Rose graduated from high school in 1941. She married Charles "Buss" Winn on Feb. 19, 1941 in Sidney, MT. They made their home in Coleharbor until 1959 when they bought the Hi-way Bar in Washburn and moved their family to Washburn. Rose owned and operated the bar for the next 20 years. After the death of her husband in 1992, Rose worked at the Big Dipper in Washburn for several years. She was a former member of St. Bonaventure's Catholic Church in Underwood and a current member of St. Edwin's Catholic Church of Washburn. Rose was an avid bowler and bowled in a league for more than 40 years. She won several awards, both personally and along with her teammates. One of her more recent awards was a state championship in the over-70 category in the Prairie Rose State Games. She loved playing cards with her family and friends and hosted "Yahtzee nights" with her friends at her home for many years. She enjoyed crafts and made "crafty" gifts for family and friends every year. She crocheted beautifully, making afghans, tablecloths, and doilies. Her lovely work was always in demand. Rose always had the coffee pot brewing, welcoming family and friends at any and all times of the day. Rose is remembered as a wonderful mother and a great friend. She was cherished deeply by all of her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by five children; Sherrin Rooney and husband Ray of Aurora, CO, Myra Ford and husband Tom of Plano, TX, Mark Winn of Washburn, Bruce Winn and wife Karen of Washburn, Greg Winn of Tulsa, OK; and daughter-in-law, Paulette Winn of Bismarck; 11 grandchildren, Stacey, Amanda, & Myra Rooney all of Aurora, CO, Brenda Kuzniar of Yuma, AZ; Winston Ford of Frisco, TX, Kendra Hardin and husband John of Dallas, TX, Brick Winn and wife Lynn of Coon Rapids, MN, Boe Winn and wife Sarah of Bismarck, Brea Wilkins and husband Brian of Brighton, CO, Charles Winn of Washburn, Craig Winn of Fergus Falls, MN;
16 great-grandchildren, Anthony and Dominic Rooney, Danielle, Derek, and Kayla Kuzniar, Alicia Krantz, Stephanie Allen, Cody Czaikowski, Bryanna and Dawson Kelley, Elizabeth and Kaitlyn Rooney, Taya Winn, Tristin and Mason Winn, Brayden Wilkins; 1 great-great grandchild, Hailey Krantz; two sisters, Clara Hutchinson of Minot, ND and Dorothy Causey of Montrose, CO; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles "Buss" Winn, twin daughters, Ida and Elizabeth Winn; 2 granddaughters, Brittany Winn and Monique Pals; 2 grandsons, Nathan Rooney and Bond Winn; and 2 sisters, Irene Minderlen and Lorna Allex.
