Kim E. Gutknecht, 60, of Washburn, ND died February 9, 2018 at his residence.  A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM Friday, February 16, 2018 at First Lutheran Church of Washburn with Pastors Erik Johnson and Sondra Krogstad officiating.  Interment will be held at a later date. A prayer service will be held 6:00 PM Thursday at First Lutheran Church, Washburn.

Kim was born May 2, 1957 in Hazen, ND the son of William & Genevieve (Bowers) Gutknecht. He attended grade school in Mandan and graduated from Minot High School in 1975. Kim worked for Westlie Motors and Fisher Sand & Gravel for a short time. Kim went to work for Great River Energy in 1979. He married Jane Rath on July 17, 1982 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Turtle Lake. They made their home in Washburn and raised two children. Kim was employed for 39 years in the Warehouse for Great River Energy Coal Creek Station. He enjoyed, cooking, gardening, yard work, hunting, motorcycling, and coaching softball.

He is survived by his wife, Jane Gutknecht of Washburn; one son, Bowen Gutknecht of Bismarck and one daughter, Brea (Charles) Tatum of Bismarck; 4 grandchildren, Roosevelt Gutknecht, Kimberly Jane Tatum, Joshua & Jacob Tatum; one sister, Lona (Glenn) Olson of Huntley, MT; a sister-in-law, Christie Gutknecht of Huntington Beach, CA his father & mother-in-law, Fred & Dorothy Rath of Turtle Lake; sister-in-law, Norma (Mike) Kendersi of Mesa, AZ; several nieces & nephews.

Kim was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother (Kevin Gutknecht).
