Kenneth Enockson, age 90 of Washburn, ND died Friday, May 1 at the Prairieview Nursing Home in Underwood following a short battle with cancer. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, May 5 at Goetz Funeral Home in Washburn, with Rev. Erik Johnson officiating. Interment is scheduled for 3:00 PM Tuesday at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery.
Kenneth was born on February 21, 1919 in Makoti, ND, to Ole and Martha (Ulvan) Enockson. He graduated from Underwood High School in 1939 while living with his sister, Erna, and her husband Harold Sauer. Following high school, he was enrolled in Engineering at UND (Grand Forks) when he was called to serve in World War II. He was an officer and served as a B-24 navigator for the 8th Air Force Heavy Bomber Wing. He was inducted on October 24, 1941 and honorably discharged as a First Lieutenant on December 8, 1945.
After his release from the U.S. Army, he married Helen Jones. In 1957, he and Helen built and operated Kenney's Bar in Washburn. Ken also farmed for many years in the Washburn area. In the early 1970's, he married Jeanette Scholl. He was an avid baseball fan and traveled around North Dakota with the amateur baseball team that he sponsored. His brother, Emil, of Moffitt, ND also had a team who competed against Kenney's team. He enjoyed visiting with his many friends, fishing, hunting, playing cards and putting puzzles together.
He is survived by one brother, Orrin Enockson of Underwood; nieces Evelyn Petrick of Linton, Avis Mikelson of Williston, Candace Enockson and Cleo Hagen of Oak Park, Illinois; nephews, Cliff Enockson of Bismarck, Gene Enockson of Minneapolis, Dwight Enockson, and Wesley Sauer of Washburn, Leslie, Lyle and Howard Enockson of Makoti, & Gayland Enockson of Lolo, Montana.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers (Emil, Anton, Juel, and Norman), and three sisters (Erna Sauer, Agnes Enockson, and an infant sister)
