Obituary

Karen Scholl, 77, of Bismarck, passed away Sunday, Sept 28, 2025, at Missouri Slope Care Center.  Cremation has taken place and inurnment will be scheduled at a later date.

Karen was the daughter of James and Jeanette (Gertz) Louser. Her father died a few months before her birth, and her stepfather, Roy Kerzman, joined the family when she was about a year old.

Karen grew up in Coleharbor and graduated from Underwood High School in 1966.  In 1969 she married Byron (Barney) Yunker.  They continued to make their home in North Dakota, eventually settling in Falkirk in 1974 where they opened their home to several foster children. Barney was killed in a scraper/truck accident at Falkirk mine 1990.

After Barney's death, Karen moved to Bismarck.  She met and later married Larry Scholl and they spent their life together in Washburn, Bismarck, and Cherokee Village, Arkansas.  They enjoyed traveling and hunting and spending time with family.   Cross-stitch and beadwork were Karen's favorite hobbies, and many of her beautiful pieces are treasured by friends and relatives. In 2018, Karen entered residential memory care, where Larry was a daily visitor and faithful companion.

Karen was preceded in death by her first husband; her parents; and siblings Lavonne Wiese, Wanda Jesser, Boyd Louser, Wayne Kerzman, and Larry Kerzman.

Survivors include her husband, Larry Scholl; sisters Barb Hillery and Carol Pelletier; sisters-in-law Cindy Kerzman, Vada (Reuben) Heid, Patsy Yunker and Carol (Dan) Carlson; brother-in law Don (Kathy) Scholl; and many nieces and nephews.
