Obituary

Johnny Dockter, age 90 of Turtle Lake, ND died Monday, July 17, 2006 at a Bismarck hospital.

Funeral Services: 10:30 AM Friday, July 21, 2006;
Trinity Lutheran Church - Turtle Lake, ND;
Rev. Karen Nelson, Officiating;
Interment: Turtle Lake Cemetery;
Visitation: 4:00 PM - 9:00 PM Thursday at Goetz Funeral Home - Turtle Lake;
Friday, one hour prior to time of service at the church.

Johnny was born September 1, 1915 at Anamoose, ND the son to John M. & Mary (Spear) Dockter. He was raised on the family farm north of McClusky, ND and attended the Sheridan County Consolidated School. He married Elsie M. Schimke on October 13, 1940 at Emanuel Lutheran Church near Butte, ND. The couple farmed north of McClusky for a number of years before moving to a farm north of Mercer, ND in 1946. After 35 years of farming, Johnny and Elsie retired from the farm and moved to Turtle Lake in 1976. Elsie passed away in July 2001. Johnny continued to make his home in Turtle Lake until the time of his death. He served on the Medicine Hill Township Board for 21 years along with service on the board of directors for the Equity Elevator in Turtle Lake, the Farmers Elevator in Mercer, and the local Farmers Union Cooperative Board. He also served on the former St. John's Lutheran Church Council, and was a present member of Trinity Lutheran Church. His hobbies and interests included fishing, bowling, politics, and sporting events. Johnny was an avid gardener, and never missed reading the daily newspaper. He is remembered for his love of family and his kind, gentle, and humble demeanor. Johnny held a profound sense of social justice, fairness, and honesty. His children and grandchildren will miss him dearly, but have many happy memories of time spent with him.

He is survived by three Daughters, JoAnn (Erv) Johnson of Minot, ND, Janice (Erwin) Geigle of Bismarck, ND, & Joyce (Dennis) Fiedler of Mercer, ND; one Son, Gene (Euni) Dockter of Mercer, ND; seven Grandchildren, Chad (Melissa) Fiedler, Jonathan Dockter, Marie Geigle, Barry Fiedler, Kimberly Dockter, Julia Geigle, & Solomon Geigle; one Great-Grandchild, Kennedy Dahme; one Sister, Helen Bonnet of Turtle Lake, ND; one Brother, Walter Dockter of Garrison, ND; & many Nieces and Nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife (Elsie), brother (Art), sister (Eleanor), & son-in-law (Glenn Freborg).
