Obituary

John Joseph LaCount Sr, 91, passed away peacefully on October 13, 2025, at a Bismarck hospital, surrounded by his loving family. He was a devoted Son, Brother, Father, Grandpa, GGPA (Great Grandpa) and friend whose love, creativity, and reliability left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him. Cremation has taken place, and a military graveside service will be held later next summer.  The service will be held at the North Dakota Veteran's Cemetery, rural Mandan, ND on Friday, June 12, 2026, at 2:00 PM with full military honors by the U.S. Air Force and Mandan VFW and American Legion.

John Joseph LaCount Sr was born on February 9, 1934, in Montpelier, VT to Fred and Anna Beatrice (LaForest) LaCount. He was in the United States Air Force 1951-1955 in Korea. He also spent 14 years in the Civil Service at Beale Air Force Base CA. He was the President A.F.G.E.  Local 2025. John took many courses at Yuba College. He got his G.E.D in 1958. Throughout his life he was a supervisor for different sheet metal companies.

On April 16th, 1960, he married the "Love of his Life" Pauline Elaine Dory. They shared 2 children, Mechelle Y. Hochsprung (LaCount) and John J. LaCount Jr.

John married Jamie Hampton in 1977.

He was the proud grandpa of Charlaine LaCount, Brian Letterman, and Tara LaCount, and a beloved great grandpa (GGPA) of 13 great-grandchildren, who brought him tremendous pride and joy.

John could fix anything and loved it too. He was dependable, self-motivated and endlessly creative. Always finding solutions and lending a helping hand whenever someone needed him. He was "a jack of all trades and master of all".

He will be remembered for his quick wit, big heart and a tireless work ethic, his creativity, humor and practical wisdom made him the one everyone turned to not just because he could fix anything but because he cared deeply about the people around him. His legacy of love, resourcefulness and kindness will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him.

John had 13 siblings. He is survived by: Robert and Gary LaCount and Preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Anna, 9 brothers: Fred, Frank, Richard, Edward, Raymond, Ugene, Douglas, Tommy & Paul 2 sisters: Virginia Blad and Diane Murray.
