John Leroy Holznagel, 33, of Washburn, N.D., died Sept. 28, 2017, from injuries sustained in a farm accident. Services will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 4, at 10:30 a.m., at First Lutheran Church in Washburn, with Pastor Erik Johnson officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, Oct. 3, from 5 to 7 p.m., at the church, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Interment will be in Riverview Cemetery.

John was born April 29, 1984, in Bismarck, N.D., to Laren D. and Joan M. (Huffman) Holznagel. He attended School in Washburn, graduating from Washburn High School in 2002. While in school, John was active in 4H and FFA and earned The American Farmer Degree, FFA's highest award. He was an all-state defensive lineman for the Washburn Cardinals football team. In 2004, he earned a certificate in Process Plant Technology from Bismarck State College.

On Oct. 11, 2008, John married Erin Jane Leingang, in Bismarck. Following their marriage, they lived and farmed west of Washburn. John loved farming the land and caring for his cattle. He was a member of several bands and enjoyed sharing his love of music with everyone. He also enjoyed hunting, camping, fishing, welding, and, most of all, spending time with his family and friends.

John is survived by his wife, Erin, of Washburn; children Noah, 7, Aubrey, 5, and Cora, 3, all of Washburn; parents Laren and Joan Holznagel of Washburn; siblings and in-laws Lynell (Holznagel) and Chris Kruckeberg of Red Lodge, Mont., Jared and Jennifer Holznagel of Washburn, and Jed Holznagel and Jada Shoemaker of Washburn; ten nieces and nephews; grandmother Lola Holznagel of Bismarck; parents-in-law Duane and Jane Leingang of Mandan, N.D., brothers and sisters-in-law, Heather (Leingang) and Dustin Grove of Mandan, and Nicholas Leingang and Meagan Hagen-Pond of Mandan; and grandmother Diane Beckler of Mandan.

John was preceded in death by one miscarried child; grandparents Milton Holznagel, Duane and Fay Huffman, Ralph Beckler, and Joe and Betty Leingang.
