Obituary

Joe Schon, age 95 of Bismarck, formerly of Mercer, ND, died Friday, May 3rd, 2013 at the Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center in Bismarck.

Funeral Services will be held 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, May 7th at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Mercer with Pastor Randy Emgarten officiating. Interment will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Monday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Mercer.

Joseph Schon was born on December 16, 1917 at Butte, ND to William & Katherine (Feasel) Schon. He grew up on the family farm and attended the Holmes Consolidated Grade School. He joined the Civilian Conservation Corps and stayed in Sidney, Montana, and Priest River, Idaho. In 1942, Joe was inducted into the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. He received his basic training at Sheppard Field, Texas. From there he went to Napier Field, Alabama. He served in the South Pacific until 1945. He later met Lorraine Gaub of Mercer, ND and they were married on January 8, 1948 at Zion Lutheran Church near Mercer. They moved to the family homestead farm 13 miles north of Mercer where they lived for many years. Joe and Lorraine moved into Mercer and later to the Valley View Retirement Center in Bismarck.

He is survived by his wife, Lorraine of Bismarck; three daughters, Patricia (Paul) Liebersbach of Nekoma, ND, Joel'l (Gordon) Neumiller of Stanton, ND, and Kathern Schon of Devils Lake, ND; two grandchildren, Emilie (Michael) Sayler and Joseph (Jennifer) Neumiller; four great-grandchildren, Hannah, Isaac, Madison, and Avrey; four sisters, Freida Spelevoy, Elsie Pieroni, Ann Fetzer, and Ardella Schon; one brother, Albert Schon; and many nieces & nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers (Bennie, Harry, Walter, John, & William) and one sister (Ida).

The family would prefer donations to Our Savior's Lutheran Church building fund or the Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center.
