Obituary

Jim McAdoo age 73 of Riverdale, ND died January 6, 2024 in Arizona City, AZ.  A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday April 27, 2024 at First Lutheran Church, Washburn with Pastor Paul Krueger officiating.  Interment will be held in the Riverview Cemetery.

James Donald McAdoo was born February 7, 1950 the son of Donald and Josephine "Jo" (Vitek) McAdoo.  He attended grade school in Washburn.  The family moved to Upham, ND where Jim graduated from high school in 1968.  He also attended Bottineau School of Forestry and Dickinson State College where he graduated in 1972 with a Bachelor of Science degree.  Jim married Virginia Bruce on August 6, 1971 and they lived in Surrey, ND.  Jim taught science and PE at Surrey from 1972 until 1979 and also coached basketball, baseball and cross country for the Surrey High School.  He then went to work for MDU from 1979 until retiring in 2005.  They then moved to Riverdale.

He served on the Surrey Park Board, Surrey School Board and was on the Hope Lutheran Church Council where he was also a charter member.  Jim was an avid outdoorsman; he loved to hunt, fish and garden.  He will always be remembered for his pear and carrot crop.

Jim is survived by his wife, Virginia; his son, Don McAdoo; his daughter, Amy McAdoo; his grandchildren Jameson and Jada McAdoo; his mother, Jo McAdoo; his sister, Shelly (Will) Torr; his brother-in-laws, Barry (Jill) Bruce and Lee Ferguson; his aunt and uncle, Clarence and Agnes Dockter and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, Don McAdoo; his brothers, John and Brent McAdoo; his father and mother-in-law, Forrest and Mavis Bruce; his sister-in-law, Carrie Ferguson; his brother-in-law, Craig Keith and his grandparents, James and Minnie McAdoo and John and Francis Vitek.

The family would like to thank everyone for the phone calls and visits the past couple of years.  Jim truly enjoyed each and everyone one of them!
