Jay Barnick, age 55 of Washburn, ND died unexpectedly on Tuesday, November 24 while enroute to a Bismarck hospital.

Visitation: 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM Friday at Goetz Funeral Home in Washburn;
Saturday, one hour prior to time of service at the church.
Jay A. Barnick was born December 7, 1953 in Bismarck, ND to Ted & Ethel (Cash) Barnick. He attended elementary school and high school in Washburn. Jay enjoyed playing football and graduated with the Washburn Class of 1972. From the age of four, Jay helped his dad on the family farm and worked various jobs following high school. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1973 and was honorably discharged in 1975. Jay married Elaine Karlson on June 29, 1976 in Washburn. Together they made their home in Washburn and raised two children, Brent & Stacey. Jay worked on the family farm until his retirement in 2008. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, throwing darts, watching wrestling, going to movies and playing pull tabs. Jay adored his two grandchildren and held a special love for his dog, "Maddie".
He is survived by his best friend and wife of 33 years, Elaine Barnick of Washburn; one son, Brent Barnick of Washburn; one daughter, Stacey Barnick of Bismarck; his mother, Ethel Barnick of Washburn; one sister, Kathy (Dean) Dietz of Fargo, ND; and several nieces & nephews.
Jay was preceded in death by his father (Ted), and one sister (Nancy).
