Janice D. Hellman, 85, of Bismarck, formerly of Washburn, died on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, at Edgewood Mandan. Funeral Service will be held at Washburn Baptist Church on Friday, October 9, 2026, at 11:00AM. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in River View Cemetery, Washburn, ND.
Janice was born to Leonard and Eva (Braun) Tomek on September 13, 1941, in Aberdeen, South Dakota. She spent her childhood moving with her family before eventually making Bismarck home. She graduated from Bismarck High School in 1959.
She married Lloyd “Bud” Kost, and together they were blessed with three children. Their years together created many treasured memories before Bud’s passing in 1977. She later married Everett Hellman, beginning another chapter of her life filled with companionship and love. Together, they made their home in Washburn and Wilton before eventually settling in Bismarck.
Janice found happiness in life’s simple pleasures. She loved to read, dance, and play games, and especially enjoyed the time spent with family and friends.
She also had a special place in her heart for her little dog, Penny, whose faithful companionship brought her great joy and comfort.
Janice is survived by her children, Kim Sheldon, Laurie (Jeff) Wagner, Mike (Tammy) Kost, stepchildren, Jeri Rathbone-Hellman, Thera Allison (CJ) Thompson, 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, sister Betty Wagner, special nephew, Barry Wagner, who spent many time helping Janice, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband, Lloyd, second husband, Everett, son-in-law, Tom Sheldon, 2 grandchildren, siblings, Pat, Tom, and Nancy.
