Janice Darlene Watt was born July 16th, 1938 in Underwood, ND, the daughter of John and Eleanor (Tornow) Watt. She grew up on a farm north of Underwood and attended the little country church, Bethel Lutheran Church of Malcolm Township. She was later confirmed at Augustana Lutheran Church in Underwood. Janice had a fine singing voice and sang for weddings and funerals. She attended country schools northeast of Underwood near the dairy farm where she was raised. Her love of animals kept her busy. As a child she was always raising something, from miniature ponies to registered Chihuahuas. As an adult, she raised exotic poultry, goats, and absolutely loved horses. She participated in the Wild Horse Adoption Program by purchasing several wild mustangs and one burro which she greatly enjoyed.
Janice married Ross Lorentzen on April 7th, 1961 in Turtle Lake, ND. The couple made their home in Falkirk and then Washburn prior to purchasing the family farm, west of Washburn. They were anticipating their 50th wedding anniversary this spring and spent the prior summer of 2010 traveling in their motorhome. The long wonderful trip began in southern Indiana and finished in Alaska. Above all else the love she felt for her children and grandchildren is what motivated her in her health battle. Having been diagnosed with a liver disease, she entered into Mayo Clinic's Transplant Program and received a liver transplant in August 1995. The transplant was successful, but in addition she needed a kidney which she received in February 1999 in Bismarck. Over the years she experienced many ups and downs, which she fought with faith and the love of her family. With comebacks from the hospital too numerous to mention she earned the nickname "Scrappy" among her family members.
She is survived by her husband, Ross Lorentzen of Washburn, one daughter and son-in-law, Vanessa and Tim Lorentzen of Underwood, IN and their six children, Hollis (spouse Jenny Dallmann) and their child Hanz, Jasper, Starlit, Zion, Jazmyn and Vanya Lorentzen; one son and daughter-in-law, John and Darcy (Madison) Lorentzen of Washburn and their ten children, Jaidra (spouse Jonathon Dagley) and their 3 children, Valerie, Vance & Liberty, Madison (spouse Morgan Civitillo), Amanda, Austin, Moriyah, Elijah, Savanna, Aiyana, Brielle, & Mikiah Lorenzten.
