Jim was born October 14, 1952 in Bismarck, ND to Donald & Hazel (Hanson) Peterson. He was raised in Washburn, ND where he resided his entire life. Jim held many jobs from his teenage years until his retirement. He made a career working at Great River Energy-Coal Creek Station, where he was employed as a Mechanic and a Planner. After his retirement from Coal Creek Station, he continued to work at Environmental Services as a Sales Representative for Great River Energy.
Jim spent most of his summers fishing with friends along with a few trips to the mountains to go four-wheeling. He saw most of the country and you could always find an atlas in his vehicle. He made friends wherever he traveled and was a good friend to have. Jim was always willing to help family, friends, and neighbors. The last couple years, you could often find him out walking his trusty companion, "Bailey boy". He and his dog spent many hours together. If you met Jim on the street and asked how he was, his reply was commonly "living the dream".
Jim is survived by his wife, Sandra Peterson; his daughters, Natasha Peterson and Danika (Chris) Schell both of Bismarck; his step children, Tyler (Jessica) Hardy of Bismarck, Danielle Hardy of Bismarck, Erica (Jeremiah) Lien of Mott, ND; his grandchildren, Dillon Schell, Kate Schell, Brynlee Hardy, Addison Hardy, and Joe Lien; two brothers, Dennis (Rocksanne) Peterson, & Duaine (Deana) Peterson; two sisters, twin Jane (Doug) Schulz and Susan (Ron) Krebsbach; and many nieces and nephews.
