James L. Hofer, 45, Bismarck, ND died unexpectedly on December 5, 2015 at a Bismarck Hospital. Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM Thursday, December 10, 2015 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Turtle Lake. Officiating will be the Pastor Sondra Krogstad. Interment will be held in the Turtle Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday for 1 hour prior to the services at the church.

James was born on October 19, 1970 in Turtle Lake, ND, the son of Ahart and Carol (Hallan) Hofer. He was raised and educated in Turtle Lake and graduated from the Turtle Lake High School in 1990. James also attended NDSCS in Wahpeton and also Bismarck State College. He lived in Mott, ND and later Dallas, TX where he worked as an automobile mechanic. James returned to Bismarck where he worked at Stan Puklich, Onyx Construction and Northern Improvement. He was currently working for Ramstad Community (Melroe-Bobcat). James enjoyed hunting, fishing, NASCAR, Monster Trucks and spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by his son, Tanner (12), Bismarck, ND; step daughter, BreAnna Zempel, Bismarck, ND; two sisters and brothers-in-law: Bernadine & Craig Trehus, Bismarck, ND, Audrey & Danny Habersham, Denton, TX and Eric & Jodi Zempel, Hazen, ND; nieces and nephews: LaShana Hicks, Jessica Habersham, Michael (Lisa) Habersham, Sonya (Eric) Hegel, Sandy (Kyle) Belgarde, C.J. Trehus, Levi Zempel, and Ryken Zempel; great nieces and nephews: Trysten Hegel, Leland Belgarde, Logan Belgarde and Lauren Habersham; father-in-law and mother-in-law: Aaron and Sharon Zempel; aunt, Betty Huelsman; uncle, Dean (Vee) Hallan and many cousins, friends and neighbors who will always be like family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Gary and Vincent Hoffer; grandparents: Bernhard and Bertha Hofer, Axel and Alice Hallan; three uncles: Harland Hofer, Allen Huelsman and Dale Hallan.
