Obituary

Longtime Washburn resident Jackie "Jack" LaMoure Wiese, 96, passed away July 21, 2023 at Elm Crest Manor, New Salem, ND.  Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, July 26, 2023 at United Methodist Church, Washburn with Pastor Annie Carlson and Pastor Kayla Buckley officiating.  Interment will be held at Riverview Cemetery, Washburn.

Jack, the son of John T. and Pauline (Meyer) Wiese, was born on February 3, 1927, at Washburn ND.  He enlisted in the U. S. Navy in January of 1945, when he was a senior in high school.  He received his High School diploma with the class of 1945. He received his Honorable Discharge from the Navy in July, 1946, having spent most of his Navy career at Subic Bay on the Philippine Islands in the South Pacific.  He returned to Washburn in 1946 and began his career with the U. S. Postal Service as a clerk in the office for 12 years. He then transferred to a rural route in 1958, which he served for 23 years, and retired in 1982.  Jack enjoyed selling boats, motors, snowmobiles and other sporting equipment for Nelson Marine, C & R Marine, and the Washburn Boat Shop for 18 years.  Jack had many hobbies, including hunting, fishing, golf, and pool.

On June 9, 1949, Jack married Alice Sackman at the Washburn United Methodist Church.  He has been an active member of the Church and has served on the Board as a Trustee.  He was also a lifetime member of the Elks, Lifetime Member and Past Commander (1952) of the Victor B. Wallin Post #12, American Legion for 79 years, and a Past Master of the Masonic Lodge (1968).  Jack was active in Boy Scouts, serving as a scoutmaster for several years.  He was a charter member of the Lewis and Clark Ft Mandan Association.  He also enjoyed following and listening to Bluegrass Music, especially Cotton Wood.

God, country, and family were of the utmost importance to Jack.  He was hard working and always kind.  He had many friends both in North Dakota and Arizona, where he and Alice spent many winters.  Summers in North Dakota found him and the family at Lake Sakakawea camping and spending time on their barge.  In the fall he enjoyed his time at the deer camp.  He was proud to have served his country during WW II.  In 2009 he traveled to Washington DC as a member of the Roughrider Honor Flight to honor WWII veterans.

Jack is survived by his wife of 74 years, Alice; one daughter and son-in-law, Linda (Larry) Maslowski, Bismarck; two sons and daughters-in-law, Gordon (Eileen) Wiese of Bismarck and Bob (Jill) Wiese of Washburn; seven grandchildren, Nicki Maslowski, Bozeman MT, Seth (Amanda) Maslowski, West Fargo, Dave (Katie) Maslowski, Helena MT, Jennie Wiese, Detroit MI, Jessica Wiese, Bozeman MT, Ashley Wiese, Warrenton VA, and Kayla (Reid) Buckley, Washburn; two step grandchildren, Jim Nelson, Bismarck; and Libby (Matt) Hennessy, Bismarck; and eight great-grandchildren: Chloe Maslowski, Jack Maslowski, Luke Maslowski, Brooke Maslowski, Bridgette Nelson, Jake Were, Isabella Kirchoffner, and Lily Buckley; one sister, Lucille Grobele, Hemet CA.
