Irma was born Aug. 27, 1924 in Turtle Lake, ND to Carl & Edna (Peterson) Bergo. She attended school in Turtle Lake and graduated from high school in 1942. Irma married Adolph R. Herring on Aug. 13, 1943 in Turtle Lake. She moved to Pensacola, FL with Adolph during the war until his transfer to Hawaii where she lived for the next several months. Following Adolph's discharge in 1947, they returned to Turtle Lake where Irma worked at her father's café'. Irma and Adolph raised two sons, Jeffery & Rex. In 1957, they moved to a farm east of Turtle Lake. Irma worked as a bookkeeper at the local livestock sales barn until 1970 when they sold the farm and purchased the Pla-Mor Lanes and Restaurant in Turtle Lake. They sold the business in 1980 and Irma then worked seven years in the insurance area of the Community Memorial Hospital. After retiring, her and Adolph spent several winters in Texas and she worked part-time at the local library. Irma loved to read to the kids that would come to the library. Her husband Adolph passed away in 2004 and she later moved to the Turtle Lake Manor for 2 ½ years. Irma recently moved to Dickinson to be near her son, Rex, and his family. She was a lifelong member of the American Legion Auxiliary and Trinity Lutheran Church of Turtle Lake. Irma loved to knit baby sweaters, garden, bowl, cook & bake, trap shoot, and read books. She loved children and would stop and talk to everyone she came in contact with!

She is survived by two sons, Jeffery Herring of Boring, OR, and Rex (Virginia) Herring of Dickinson, ND; three grandchildren, Adam (Satchia) Herring, Joanna (Mike) Good, & Clay (Lisa) Herring; six great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mildred Herring, Beatrice (Harold) Affeldt, & Eunice Sackman; two brothers, Alfred (Jordis) Bergo, & Bruce (Roxann) Bergo; brother-in-law, Harold Fetzer; and several nieces & nephews.
