Obituary
Irene D. Walcker, 83, of Riverdale, ND, passed away April 26, 2015 at the Garrison Memorial Hospital Nursing Facility, where she had resided since August 2010.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, May 2nd at the Riverdale Community Church. Pastor Alan Hathaway will be officiating. Interment will take place in the Turtle Lake Cemetery.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to time of funeral service at the church in Riverdale.
Irene was born May 15, 1931 in Turtle Lake, ND to John & Mary (Lentz) Schmidt. She attended rural school near Turtle Lake through the 8th grade. Irene was united in marriage to Theodore "Ted" R. Walcker on October 14, 1949 in Turtle Lake. They made their home in Turtle Lake where they raised their four young children. In 1963, they moved to Riverdale where Ted worked for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Irene worked at the Riverdale Hotel for several years. She also ironed and sewed clothing for many people. Irene was a member of the Riverdale Community Church for many years.
Irene loved gardening, baking, and making crafts. She was known for her "mean" batch of pickles and her German cooking. She loved children and would often babysit for family members and friends, offering them as much love and care as she did for her own.
In her later years, her greatest pride and joy were her "little ones", her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by her two sons, Gary (Sue) Walcker of Winnemucca, NV, and Larry (Sandi) Walcker of Butte, MT; one daughter, Joyce (Mike) Glaspey of Lignite, ND; 12 grandchildren, Jenny Walcker, Michelle (James) Warner, Curtis (Amanda) Walcker, Brett Walcker, Jesse (Ashlie) Walcker, Travis Walcker, Steven Walcker, Bradley Walcker, Ashley Walcker, Suzette (Ryan) Greenfield, Brandi (Ryan) Lelm, & Kassandra (Tyler) Grant; 9 great grandchildren, Joshua, Nicolas, Eric, & Isaac Warner, Alex & Natalie Walcker, Crosby & Logan Walcker, and Hayden Lelm; 3 sisters-in-law, Louise (Bryan) Grondahl of Bismarck, Vi Walcker and Bev Walcker, both of Underwood; one brother-in-law, Layton Freborg of Underwood; daughters-in-law, Nancy Walcker of Wilton, & Yvette Walcker of California; and many nieces & nephews.
Irene was preceded in death by her parents, husband (Ted), son (Steve), brothers (Hilbert, Leonard, Reuben, & Emil), and a sister (Carrie Fiedler).
