Irene Rogowski-Kilian, 85, formerly of Wilton, ND, died February 27, 2017 at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, Bismarck, ND. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 AM Friday, March 3, 2017 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Wilton with Rev. Frank J. Schuster as celebrant. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Thursday with a parish vigil service at 7:00 PM all at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church.
Irene was born October 6, 1931 near Kintyre, ND the daughter of Peter and Elizabeth (Zahn) Jacob. She attended country school. She moved to Bismarck where she worked as a waitress at the Patterson Hotel. She met Richard Rogowski through a mutual friend and they were married on July 10, 1951. They moved to the family farm North of Wilton where they raised their 4 daughters. Richard died on September 6, 1980 from a farming accident. Irene suffered a horrific six month period where she lost her parents and her husband. Irene then moved into Wilton where she was an assistant cook at the Wilton School until retiring. Irene married William Kilian on January 4, 2004. They enjoyed many years of happiness and travelling together. Due to failing health, Irene moved to Maple View in Bismarck and then later entered Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center where they took special care of her.
Irene enjoyed playing pinochle, baking, reading, embroidery and going for walks. Irene and Richard enjoyed travelling to Denver to visit her family and took many other trips. Irene enjoyed spending time with her daughters and grandchildren. There were many "girl weekends" that created many special memories of Irene. She will always be remembered as a loving and caring person.
She is survived by her husband, William Kilian of Wilton; her daughters, Sandy (Wade) Hanson of Wilton, Susie (Brian) Masterson of Canby, OR, Judy (Randy) Schnabel of Lincoln, ND, and Mary (Marlin) Hruby of Wilton; 9 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren; a brother, Robert (Vickie) Jacob of Hartsel, CO; her sisters, Marie Price of Seymour, TN, and Fran Hunt of Denver, CO; a brother-in-law, Ray Hauger of Montana; her step-sons, Billie Kilian of Sioux Falls, SD and Phillip (Vickie) Kilian of Berthoud, CO, a step-daughter, Susan Kilian of Wilton, ND; 2 step-grandchildren and 3 step-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephew.
Irene was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband Richard, sisters, Cecelia Huschka, Phyllis Hauger and Jane Ruffin.
