Ida Rust, age 99 of Bismarck, formerly of Mercer, ND, died Saturday, December 6, 2008 at the Baptist Home in Bismarck.

Ida was born October 7, 1909 near Butte, ND the daughter of Christian & Justina (Hensel) Fiedler. She attended a rural consolidated school in Sheridan County, ND. Ida was united in marriage to Andrew Rust on September 26, 1935. They farmed in the rural Butte & Mercer area for many years. In 1945, they purchased the local blacksmith shop in Mercer. They later rebuilt their farm and equipment shop and established Rust Manufacturing in 1954. Ida was employed with the Mercer Public School as a cook for the lunch program for over 6 years. She later became the bookkeeper for the family business, Rust Manufacturing. Her husband Andrew passed away in 1972 and Ida sold the business in 1974. She moved to Bismarck in 1985 and for fifteen years served as a volunteer at several locations including Medcenter One Health Systems. Ida enjoyed crocheting, knitting, and craftwork.

She is survived by one daughter, LaVon (Lane) Jacobson of Bismarck; one son, Jimmy D. Rust of Reston, VA; six grandchildren, Mark Freborg of Birmingham, AL, Carmen (Ken) Reno of Scottsdale, AZ, Alysa Broutigam of Fairfax, VA, Michelle (James) Waldo of Salisbury, MD, James (Heather) Rust of Edmonds, WA, & Eric (Karlee) Rust of Reston, VA; thirteen great-grandchildren; one brother, Arnold (Erdina) Fiedler of Dousman, WI; and three sisters-in-law, Helen Russ, Elvina Fiedler, & Violet Fiedler, all of Mercer.

Ida was preceded in death by her husband (Andrew), parents, one sister (Marie), seven brothers (Daniel, Otto, Edwin, Meinhardt, Martin, Herbert, & Andrew), & two sons-in-law (James Freborg & Don Hinkle).
