Howard Johannes, age 81 of Riverdale, ND died Monday, November 8th at the Prairieview Nursing Home in Underwood.
Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM Friday, Nov. 12th at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Riverdale with Pastor John Nilsen officiating.
Burial will be in the Alexander Presbyterian Cemetery of rural Underwood.
Visitation will be from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Thursday at Goetz Funeral Home in Underwood with a family service at 7:00 PM. Visitation will continue Friday, one hour prior to service at the church.
Howard was born April 19, 1929 at Underwood, ND to Henry & Lorina (Grosz) Johannes. He attended rural school near Underwood and began his adult life working as a farmer. Howard married Opal Post on June 6, 1960 in Wolf Point, MT. He lived and worked in Fairbanks, Alaska for two years before returning to the lower 48 states. Howard was employed as a diesel mechanic for Koch Industries until retiring at the age of 57. In his retirement days he enjoyed fishing, hunting, and gardening. He enjoyed flying his own plane in his younger years. Howard is remembered for hunting everything from bear to birds with great success and for being a great handyman. He was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his loving wife, Opal Johannes of Riverdale; daughter, Wanda Kay & husband Wade Sivertson of Gillette, WY and their children Lance, Rachel, & Chad; daughter, Nancy Ann and husband Gary Swanson of Wayzata, MN and their children James & Gail; daughter, Nona and husband Alan Rardin of Palisade, MN and their children Heather & Kerry; son, Nial Nickey of McGregor, MN and his children Jennifer, Hidie, & Jonathan; many great grandchildren; four brothers, Harold (Thelma) of Underwood, Weston (Rowena) of Underwood, Arlo (Sandy) of Snohomish, WA, & James (Ella) of Underwood; two sisters, Marjorie (Carl) Jessen of St. Paul, MN & Lorel (Jim) Skuly of Olmsted Falls, OH; and many nieces & nephews.
Howard was preceded in death by his parents, infant son (Jonathan), & one brother (Robert).
