Herb Nathan, 91, of Turtle Lake, ND, died December 11, 2015 in the Community Memorial Hospital, Turtle Lake.

A funeral service will be held 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, December 15th at St. Olaf Lutheran Church of rural Turtle Lake with Pastor Randy Emgarten officiating.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to time of service.

Herbert Walter Nathan was born November 3, 1924 in Turtle Lake, ND to Christof & Magdalina (Weible) Nathan. He attended country school thru the 8th grade in a schoolhouse across the road from the farm where he was raised. Herb graduated from Turtle Lake High School. He married Betty Lou Johnson on July 2, 1945. He and Betty were married for 62 years. Herb farmed near Turtle Lake his entire life and enjoyed working the land. He loved to stay active in politics and enjoyed political conversations. Herb was a welcoming and social host who would often greet you with a smile and a handshake. He enjoyed spending time with his family, hunting and gardening in the outdoors, playing cards and shaking dice.

He is survived by his son, Tom (LaVonne Anderson) Nathan of Forest Lake, MN; two daughters, Sandy (Arnie) Fleck of Sioux City, IA, & Sue (Ron) Wardner of Coleharbor, ND; nine grandchildren, Cristoph (Kari) Nathan, Laura (Tony) Welter, Michael Nathan, Austin Fleck, Tanner (Hollie) Fleck, Garrett (Caitlin) Fleck, Jay Wardner, Sadie Wardner, & Kyle Wardner; and one great granddaughter, Josephine Rose Welter.

Herb was preceded in death by his parents, one son (David Nathan), and 8 siblings (Reinhold, Violette, Richard, Robert, Dale, Martha, Elsie, & Edwin).
