Hazel A. Brown, age 95 of Velva, ND, formerly of Turtle Lake, died Wednesday, May 5th at the Souris Valley Care Center in Velva. .

Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, May 8th at Trinity Lutheran Church in Turtle Lake with Pastor Betty J. Stedman officiating.

Interment will be at the St. Olaf Lutheran Cemetery, rural Turtle Lake.

Visitation will be held Saturday, one hour prior to time of service at the church.

Hazel was born August 27, 1914 near Turtle Lake, ND to Knute & Etta (Perkins) Sondrol. She was raised on the family farm and baptized & confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Hazel attended eight years of grade school in the Medicine Hill Township School District and graduated from Turtle Lake High School in 1934. She married Frederick L. Brown on June 2, 1934 at Washburn. They farmed in the Turtle Lake, Ruso, & Butte, ND area until 1959 when they moved to Rapid City, SD where Fred worked highway construction. They later moved to Plankinton, SD where Hazel was employed as a housemother at the maintenance training school. They also made their home in Sioux Falls for several years. In 1979, they returned to North Dakota and lived in Underwood for one year, Velva for five years, and then Turtle Lake. Fred passed away on March 1, 1999. Hazel was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and enjoyed playing cards and embroidery.

She is survived by one daughter, Marjean (Roger) Boe of Turtle Lake; two sons, Keith (Elaine) Brown of Whitehall, MT, & Kenneth (Muriel) Brown of Casper, WY; nine grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, & seven great-great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Ragnhild Sondrol & Carol Sundby; and several nieces & nephews.

Hazel was preceded in death by her husband, two brothers, & three sisters.

Memorials are preferred to Trinity Lutheran Church of Turtle Lake, or the Souris Valley Care Center of Velva.
