IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Harold A.
Lutz
March 27, 1925 – December 20, 2020
Harold Allen Lutz, 95, of Bismarck, ND (formerly of Underwood, ND), while surrounded by his family, passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on December 20, 2020, at Sanford Medical Center, Bismarck.
Harold was born to Gottlieb and Rosina (Stotz) Lutz on March 27, 1925 at their rural home near Greenway, SD. He attended rural grade school and graduated from Eureka High School in Eureka, SD in 1943. He then attended school at Northern College in Aberdeen and taught country school for two years. He also worked with his parents on their farm.
Harold married Lorine Berreth of Artas, SD on October 24, 1950. A little over three weeks later, Harold, having been drafted, entered the United States Army and completed basic training at Fort Riley, Kansas. He was then trained as a teletype operator and proudly served in that capacity in Korea until his honorable discharge November 11, 1952. Following his return to the States, he attended Coyne Electrical School in Chicago, IL. Following graduation, the couple moved to Underwood, ND, where he started Electronic Sales and Service in partnership with Adolph Eman. Later the business was renamed Harold's TV and Appliance and he remained in business until 1996.
Harold was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Underwood, where he served in numerous positions including Sunday school teacher, choir member, and Deacon. Harold became a member of The Gideons International in 1979, serving in many offices. Harold was also a member of the Underwood Civic Club, the Underwood Volunteer Fire Department, and was a lifetime member of the Underwood Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6940.
In 2010, Harold and Lorine moved to Touchmark in Bismarck, ND. While residing there, he enjoyed playing cards and bingo, singing in the choir, and taking part in the many social activities that were offered.
Having been active in the church and business community, Harold easily made many lifelong friends. But what Harold cherished most was spending time with his family. He was always ready with a word of advice, encouragement, and wise counsel. His quiet laugh and quick smile, with a twinkle in his eye, will always be remembered.
There was never a time that Harold was not ready for a game of Whist or Skip-Bo. He enjoyed fishing year round, and every once in a while would share his catch. He could often be seen sharing ice cream with his grandchildren at the old fashioned soda fountain in Underwood, many times twice a day. And he so enjoyed the visits with his great-grandchildren, listening to their singing, joining in their laughter, and sharing many hugs.
Above all, devotion to God and family was the hallmark of Harold's life. His gentle strength and steadfast faith were evident throughout his life and his devotion to his wife of 70 years is a testament to all who knew him. He will be greatly missed, but we are grateful for the rich legacy of faith in Jesus Christ he has left to his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Harold is survived by his beloved wife; four children: Wayne (Susan) Lutz, Eureka, SD, Wesley (Teri) Lutz, Moorhead, MN, Renee (Art) Bretches, Ephrata, WA, and Rod Lutz, Ephrata, WA; six grandchildren: Alisha (Fredrick) Wohl, Nathaniel (Kristin) Lutz, Jordan Lutz, Adam Lutz, Ally (Nash) Bettenhausen and Amanda Lutz; and four great grandchildren: Annabelle, Brady and Calista Wohl and Sophia Lutz.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Elmer Lutz and his sister Edna Chase.
Memorials are to be directed to Bismarck Baptist Church or The Gideons International.
Private family services will be held Monday, December 28, at Bismarck Baptist Church, with Pastor Bryan Hochhalter and Pastor Allen Finger officiating. Burial will follow in the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, ND. The funeral service will be live streamed on the Bismarck Baptist church website. (bb.church)
