Harold was born April 24, 1925 on the family farm near Underwood, ND to Henry & Lorena (Grosz) Johannes. He attended a country school near his home for the first eight years of his schooling and then graduated from Underwood High School in 1943. Harold continued to farm with his father until 1952 when he moved to his own farm. He married the love of his life, Thelma Wolters of Little Falls, MN, on June 1, 1952. Three children were born to this union, Daniel, Rachel, & Ruth Ann.
Harold farmed and ranched for many years, raising polled Hereford cattle, until his retirement in 1988. He continued to make his home on the farm and was an avid hunter, fisherman, and gardener. Harold loved to spend his summer evenings fishing the Missouri River or hoeing in his garden. He was very proud of all his garden produce and abundance of apples from his trees which he was eager to share with everyone.
His commitment to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, was preeminent in his life. His faith never wavered through the good times and the bad. He built his life on the solid rock, Jesus Christ. His utmost desire was to have all his family and extended family know the Lord as their personal Savior. Harold was a member of the Alexander Presbyterian Church and served in the capacity of elder for many years.
