Gordon Schell, age 50 of Mercer, ND died July 19, 2011 at a Bismarck hospital.
Funeral Services will be held 1:00 PM Sunday, July 24th at the Mercer Community Center with Pastor Randy Emgarten officiating. Interment will follow at the Zion Lutheran Cemetery, south of Mercer.
Visitation will be from 4:30 PM to 7:00 PM Saturday at the Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Mercer with a remembrance service at 7:00 PM.
Gordon "Gordie" was born July 8, 1961 in Turtle Lake, ND to Ervin & Eileen (Laib) Schell. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He attended school in Mercer and Turtle Lake and graduated from Turtle Lake-Mercer High School in 1979. Gordie attended the North Dakota State School of Science in Wahpeton graduating with a certificate in plumbing in 1981. He worked for Ames Construction from 1983 to 1985 and Holen Construction from 1986 to 1992. He also worked a short time for Svihla Trucking. In November 1993, he purchased Chester's Tavern in Mercer which he operated until May 1997. He then went back to work for Holen Construction in McClusky and later became manager and part-owner of A&G Trucking. Gordie was a life-long resident of Mercer and a member of the Our Savior's Lutheran Church. He was active in several local organizations.
He is survived by his parents, Ervin & Eileen Schell of Mercer; one sister, Marlene (Robert) Young of Steele, ND; two nephews, Charlie (Jessica) Young, & Matthew Young, both of Bismarck; one grand-nephew, Braeden Young; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, and many close friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, four uncles, & one aunt.
Gordie's family prefers memorials directed to the Zion Lutheran Cemetery or the Our Savior's Lutheran Church building fund.
